have a heart medical fund .... how you can help

Each month, we will be sharing special medical need cases that we havee encountered here at our Shelter as we try to give the needed care for animals that we hope to find loving homes for.

This month, we are sharing the stories of Phoenix and Strider.  The photos are not easy to see, but as you know, starvation cases and other injuries are difficult to look at but important to be aware of.

A Story of Healing Made Possible By Our "Have a Heart" Medical Fund
Phoenix is having treatement for both starvation and what we suspect are solar burns from being out in the sun during the terrible heat with no access to shade. After two weeks of care, Phoenix is looking and feeling so much better and is being fostered by our wonderful shelter vet, Dr. Judi Vogt.  We've also posted a photo of him in his daily “work” attire, which he wears proudly while helping our Customer Service Representatives.

We also wanted to introduce you to Stryder, a young German Shepherd, who also came to us as a starvation case.  His first few days with us were very difficult as we were unsure if he would decide to start eating; many do not.  With the dedication and love from Linda Edwards, one of our fantastic Customer Service Representatives, he is putting on weight thanks to her great home-cooked meals that he enjoys while she fosters this handsome boy. We will be posting updates regularly on both of these fantastic canines.

These photos help us show the public exactly how we utilize the "Have a Heart" Medical fund. Caring & rehabilitating animals like Phoenix & Stryder goes above and beyond our normal scope of care.  This fund helps us treat situations like burns, starvation, heart worms, broken bones, special medications and surgeries. While these conditions may be unexpected, they are not hopeless and we are there to help.

If you, your friends, civic group, company or employer would like to get involved and help with our Have A Heart Medical Fund, visit http://www.humanesocietyofcharlotte.org/documents/Have_A_Heart_Medical_Fund_copy.jpg and complete the form at this link.

Remember, they don't need much, but they do need you!
