schedule an appointment

1. To schedule an appointment, please download the application for surgery, fill it out in its entirety, then return to the Humane Society of Charlotte Spay/Neuter clinic by mail with payment to Humane Society of Charlotte Spay/Neuter Clinic 2646 Toomey Ave, Charlotte, NC 28203, by email at spayneuter@humanesocietyofcharlotte.org, or by fax at 704-333-6678. (this is a pre-paid service offered to the public) (our prices) We ask that you please complete one application per animal. We accept all major debit/credit cards, check, money order, and cash. You may also either call or email the clinic for an application to be mailed to you.

Please note, due to the current economic climate, our discounted spay/neuter services are being requested at an ever increasing rate. Therefore, wait times for surgery are longer than normal and we thank you for your patience.

2. We are open to anyone who wishes to have their animal fixed, regardless of the county or state you live in. (You do not have to be a resident of Mecklenburg County) All animals must be at least 4 months old to be eligible for surgery. Cryptorchid males must be at least 6 months old. (Health and Benefits) We may require or recommend that your animal have pre-surgical blood work done by your regular veterinarian within the 3-5 days prior to your scheduled appointment if your animal is 7 years of age of older.

3. Because there is a wait time for surgery, we recommend submitting your application for surgery as soon as possible.

4. Once the application has been received and the payment processed, we will contact you to schedule the appointment either by email or phone. We will start by offering you our first available date but if that is not a good time for you, we will work with you to find a date that will work around your schedule. We can not schedule an appointment until a completed application and payment for surgery has been received in the office.

5. All animals must have current vaccines given by a veterinarian.  We do not accept any vaccines given by an owner or breeder. Dogs must have a current rabies and distemper/parvo (dhlpp) vaccine and cats must have current rabies and distemper (fvrcp) vaccine. You will need to provide proof of the current vaccines on the morning of surgery. Please do not send vaccine records with your application. If your pet is not current on vaccines we can provide vaccines for you on the day of surgery. (our prices)  If your pet has not received vaccines prior to the morning of your scheduled surgery appointment, you will be asked to sign an increased risk form in case your animal was to have an allergic reaction to one of the vaccines..

6. On the evening before surgery, please be sure to follow all pre-surgical instructions as they relate to holding off food and water to your animal.

7. Please bring your animal in on the day of surgery between 7 and 8:30am. This is the only time we accept animals for surgery. We do not schedule appointments for surgery in the afternoon or at any other time of the day. Surgeries are scheduled by appointment only, Monday thru Friday. If you wish to purchase a microchip or vaccines for your animal on the day of surgery, please let the technician know when you are checking in. While surgery fees must be pre paid, you can choose to either pre pay for the microchip and/or vaccines with the application or pay for either of those on the day of surgery.

8. Please pick up your animal between 3:30 and 5pm on the same day as your surgery. There is no staff on site overnight at our clinic and it is important that you pick up your animal so that care may be given to your pet at home where they will be most comfortable the evening after surgery. Cuddling, pampering and spoiling that evening is highly recommend by our spay/neuter staff.

9. Your animal may need an e-collar if s/he is licking or chewing at the incision site. We do not have these available for purchase through the spay/neuter clinic. You would need to obtain one at either your regular veterinarians’ office or a local pet store. Your animal must be kept indoors and on low activity for 10 days following surgery. Dogs may go out for short, supervised leash walks to use the bathroom during that time. Your animal can not have a bath for 10 days after surgery. We recommend bathing and/or grooming your pet prior to the day of surgery if they are use to a regular grooming schedule.

10. Your animal will receive an injectable pain medication prior to surgery. We are unable to dispense any pain medication to you at the time of pick up. Please contact your regular veterinarian to discuss additional pain management for 2-3 days following your pet’s surgical procedure. If our clinic needs to contact your veterinarian on the day of surgery so that they can prescribe medications to you, please advise a technician of this at check in so we can call in your prescription or verify your appointment with us.
