Be 18 years old or older.
Be able to donate at least 8 hours a month for 6 months.

We charge a one-time administrative fee to help us cover the cost of our volunteer program. As long as you remain an active volunteer, one fee will cover everything! Fees are as follows:
Adults $25.00
Seniors 60 and over $15.00
Foster Care Volunteers - waived fee
Special Note to Students and Community Service Applicants:
Due to the overwhelming number of requests, we can no longer accommodate short-term community service hours. If you are required to complete 15 or more hours and are at least 18 years old, please click here for instructions and forms.
When we receive your profile, you will get an e-mail about our upcoming volunteer information session. Our sessions are generally held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM and the 4th Saturday of each month from 9:30 AM - 10:30 PM at the Humane Society of Charlotte. Please do not attend an information session without prior confirmation.
During orientation, an overview of our organization and volunteer needs is provided for potential volunteers. Please note, these orientation sessions are not designed to prepare volunteers to become foster care providers. To learn about becoming a foster care volunteer, please click here.
Some positions require extra training, such as our Basic Feline Socialization and our Walk to Adopt programs. After completing these classes and a one-on-one shadowing session, you are welcome to spend time with our animals. If you are going to volunteer only for special events, you are not required to take the animal handling class or do the one-on-one session.
If you have any questions, please contact Cat Belteau, volunteer coordinator via email: cbelteau@humanesocietyofcharlotte.org or phone: (704) 494-7706.

If you are between the ages of 10 and 17 and can't volunteer at the shelter, there is still a lot that you can do to help the animals. Check out Junior Volunteers, made especially for you!
Our opportunity directory contains volunteer needs that range from office work to professional services to hands-on animal care and socialization, both in the shelter and in foster homes. Specific training and instruction will be provided as needed for all volunteer tasks.
Thank you so much for considering the volunteering of your skills, talents, and time. We couldn’t do it without you!
