Our organization can not do all that we do without the help of our wonderful volunteers. We need volunteers to walk the dogs, play with the cats, foster animals in their homes, clean, assist with office tasks, work at our spay/neuter clinics, and help with special events. We always need caring people who want to make a real difference in an animal's life and in the community.
If you are between the ages of 10 and 17, you must have your parent or legal guardian with you at all times. If you are under age 10, there is still a lot that you can do to help the animals. Check out Junior Volunteers, made especially for you!
If you would like to make a difference in the lives of our animals, we would love to have you join us!
In order to be a volunteer:
- Fill out our Volunteer Profile
- Attend orientation
- Be 18 years old or older. (If you are 10-17 years old, you can volunteer with a parent or legal guardian present )
- Be able to provide at least 30 volunteer hours in six months
- Have good customer service skills
- Support the mission, principles and policies of the Humane Society of Charlotte
When we receive your profile, you will get an e-mail about our upcoming orientation. After you select an orientation date, you will get a confirmation e-mail. Please do not attend an orientation without prior confirmation.
The orientation is one hour long, and is followed by a two hour training session that prepares you for our Walk to Adopt and Kitty Cuddling programs. After completing these classes and a one-on-one shadowing session, you are welcome to spend time with our animals any time the shelter is open to the public. If you are going to volunteer only for special events, you are not required to take the animal handling class or do the one-on-one session.
If you have any questions, please contact Cat Belteau, volunteer coordinator, via email: cbelteau@humanesocietyofcharlotte.org or phone: (704) 377-0534 x234
